Police Officer Lateral
Description Of Duties/Essential Functions
Under general supervision of the Shift Commander, Public Service Administrator, instructs and supervises Correctional Sergeants, Correctional Officers, and Correctional Officer Trainees; enforces and maintains discipline, safety, security, maintenance, sanitary and custodial measures for the control of offenders; monitors compliance with Departmental Rules, Administrative Directives and Institutional Policies.
Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school and completion of an approved Correctional Officer Training Program
- Two years experience as a Correctional Officer in a penal or security institution
- Thorough knowledge of institutional rules, regulations and requirements for the control of offenders
- Working knowledge of individual and group attitude and behavior of offenders in the penal or correctional institutions
- Working knowledge of methods and techniques used in discipline of employees and persons in correctional institutions
- Working knowledge of practices and procedures in prison administration
- The ability to climb, bend, stoop, run, jump, walk, and stand for short or extended periods of time
- A valid driver's license
- The ability to properly use firearms
