Police Officer II

About the role

The Police Officer II prevents and investigates violations of the law, University rules and regulations under the direction of a Sergeant and/or Lieutenant.

Responsibilities

Essential duties include:

• Patrolling property under the jurisdiction of the Texas A&M University in Galveston County by motor vehicle, bicycle, or on foot
• Enforcing all criminal laws of the state of Texas and violations of Texas A&M at Galveston rules and regulations
• Taking reports and performing preliminary police investigations
• Providing assistance to the public whenever possible
• Preventing crime and suppressing disturbances
• Issuing citations and testifying in justice of the peace courts, as well as county and district courts and at student judicial hearings
• Guarding and transporting prisoners
• Interacting with the public on a day-to-day basis and responding to emergency calls

Requirements

Required qualifications include:

• High school graduation or GED
• One year as a licensed Police Officer
• Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic certification
• State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment

Preferred qualifications include two or more years as a licensed Police Officer.

• Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population
• Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions

Other Requirements

Other requirements include:

• Working beyond normal office hours and/or on weekends
• Passing an entrance exam to be considered for employment
• Successfully passing psychological evaluation, physical examination, and completing background investigation

Pay

The hourly salary for this position is $26.99.
