About the role

The Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) Office of Investigations and Security Services seeks qualified candidates for the position of Police Officer II. This role is at the full performance level of law enforcement work and requires complete independence in performing duties.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce laws, rules, and regulations governing safety and protection of personnel and state property.
  • Perform safety, patrol, and security duties in motor vehicles or on foot.
  • Respond to disturbances and emergencies.
  • Issue warnings or summonses and make arrests.
  • Investigate accidents and criminal acts.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Experience: Six (6) months of experience as a certified law enforcement officer.
  • Certification: Must have completed all training components as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC).
  • Licenses: Must possess police officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.

Schedule

Employees are subject to call-in duty during emergencies and staffing shortages and will work a rotating shift.

Special Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship: Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Background Investigation: Satisfactory background investigation, including a check of criminal history.
  • Oral Interview: Required.
  • Physical Examination: Required.
  • Driver's License: Valid in the state of Maryland.
  • Firearm Training: Practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms.
