Description
The Newark, Ohio Civil Service Commission is seeking qualified candidates to build an eligibility list to fill future positions, within the Newark Division of Police, as Police Officer beginning January 1, 2026. The Newark, Ohio Civil Service Commission offers full testing services for the position of police officer through National Testing Network, Inc. (NTN).
What To Expect

Completion of the Application Process
- Review all information related to the Newark Division of Police, police officer position, including minimum requirements, salary, and benefits
- Detail information about the testing process for both the entry level test and PAT testing
- Opportunity to take online practice tests at www.frontlinetest.com
- Schedule your own convenient test time. Tests are offered multiple times a week, including Saturdays
- Take high quality job simulation tests in a standardized, fair testing environment
- All candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the Newark Division of Police upon completion of the entry-level exam and Personal History Questionnaire
Candidates Eligibility
- Candidates who attain a passing score on both the entry-level exam and the physical abilities test may be placed on the department’s eligibility list
- The Newark Division of Police will contact candidates on the list and invite them to continue to participate in other stages of the department selection process
National Testing Network (NTN)
- National Testing Network (NTN) is a service provided to conduct entry level testing in a standardized, professional environment
- National Testing Network (NTN) does not replace the Newark Division of Police’s responsibility and decision making in the testing process
Examples of Duties
- Diligently and thoroughly patrol assigned area
- Recognizing and observing suspicious behaviors of persons which may indicate involvement in criminal offenses
- Observing traffic flow for violations and issuing warnings or citations to violators in an effort to reduce auto accidents and traffic congestion
- Prioritize and promptly respond in a safe manner to all dispatched calls in the City and requests for assistance from other jurisdictions
- Complete all special projects, assignments and investigations as assigned
- Perform all duties in a professional, accurate, and timely manner
- Maintain an acceptable level of competence, professionalism, and ability to ensure duties are performed as outlined in this job description
Typical Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age and have a valid State of Ohio driver’s license
- Must be able to pass Civil Service Commission written and physical agility testing
- Must reside within, or adjacent to, Licking County as a condition of employment
Problem Solving
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical and legal instructions in mathematical, written, or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
