About the role

The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking dedicated, currently certified Police Officers to join our Safety Services Division. These positions exercise full police powers and carry comprehensive law enforcement responsibilities across multiple DMHAS campuses.

Responsibilities

  • Provides crowd control at various events and activities.
  • Maintains physical security and authorized access to prevent theft, trespass, vandalism or violations of state statutes or regulations.
  • Operates firefighting apparatus if needed.
  • Conducts cruiser or foot patrols.
  • Responds to emergency situations and provides CPR or first aid to injured parties.
  • Assists in search for escaped patients or inmates.
  • Assists State Police in investigation of major criminal acts.
  • May conduct various safety training, certification and/or recertification courses.
  • Performs minor equipment repairs.
  • May serve as dispatcher.

Requirements

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Available shifts: First, Second, and Third.
  • Schedule: Every Other Weekend Off.
  • Hazardous Duty.
  • Positions in Blue Hills Hospital - Hartford, Capitol Region Mental Health Center - Hartford, Connecticut Mental Health Center - New Haven, Connecticut Valley Hospital - Middletown, River Valley Services - Middletown, Southwest Connecticut Mental Health System - Bridgeport, and Whiting Forensic Hospital - Middletown.

Qualifications

  • Must be a certified police officer.

Skills

  • Knowledge of police and security practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of traffic and crowd control practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of criminal law and court procedures.
