Job Duties
- Conduct arrest and detention activities, including search and seizure within investigations, arrest, and warrant execution.
- Control civil disorder situations, such as unruly crowds and hostile persons.
- Enforce civil process, including service of process and court actions.
- Exercise verbal skills to deescalate agitated individuals.
- Prepare complaints and warrants for court actions.
- Assess and correct personal and facility risks for crime prevention.
- Organize and implement crime prevention programs.
- Collect intelligence and evidence during investigations.
- Interview suspects and conduct searches as part of investigations.
- Enforce traffic laws and regulations, including DWI laws and parking violations.
- Write detailed and accurate police reports, forms, statements, and memos.
- Complete juvenile reports and petitions, interact with juveniles, parents, schools, judges, and DCYF.
- Secure and investigate accident scenes, complete accident reports.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of progressive experience with a public safety agency or equivalent.
- A minimum score of 75% in the Police Combat Practical Pistol Course based on New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council standards.
- An annual physical examination and fitness test.
- No criminal record except for minor motor vehicle violations.
- A valid New Hampshire driver's license.
- Certification as a full-time police officer by the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council within one year of appointment.
- Completion of a background investigation, psychological testing, and polygraph.
Qualifications
Must have the ability to exercise discretion under state and federal law in the use of force, including the use of physical force and deescalation techniques. Must operate law enforcement and job-related equipment. Must perform duties at special events, render assistance to the public, enforce college/university rules and regulations.
