About the role

The primary mission of the University of California Police is the protection of life and property upon and adjacent to the University campus. The primary goal of the department is to accomplish its mission in a manner that enhances and supports the University's ability to deliver quality higher education and research opportunities in a peaceful learning environment. Officers employed by UCRPD serve in various roles in support of this mission.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an environment which demands police officer integrity, excellence, accountability and respect.

  • Be a friendly, outgoing, caring, and approachable person.
  • Work rotation shifts with changing days off, in a twenty-four, seven-day operation.
  • Meet the rigorous mental and physical requirements of police work, and work effectively under pressure in potentially hazardous or ambiguous situations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.

Requirements

  • Education: U.S. high school diploma; GED certificate; high school equivalency certificate; or a two (2) year, four (4) year, or advanced degree from an accredited or approved college/university.
  • POST Regular Basic Course: Completion of the POST Regular Basic Course in either the intensive or extended format within one year of date of appointment.
  • Ability and willingness to work in an environment demanding police officer integrity, excellence, accountability and respect.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotation shifts with changing days off, in a twenty-four, seven-day operation.
  • Ability to meet the rigorous mental and physical requirements of police work, and work effectively under pressure in potentially hazardous or ambiguous situations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current or recent University of California affiliation as a student or staff member.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current police practices, protocols and procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the workings of the California criminal justice system.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal laws applicable to the police function generally, and to the University of California police function specifically.

Pay

The full salary range for the Police Officer is $100,766.88 - $126,699.84 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Schedule

Officers employed by UCRPD work rotation shifts with changing days off, in a twenty-four, seven-day operation.

Benefits
