About the role
The Staunton Police Department is accepting applications for a candidate to attend the Southwestern Illinois Police Academy (SWIC) in Belleville, Illinois. This is a full-time position requiring a three‑year employment contract with the City of Staunton and successful completion of the POWER Test on December 1, 2026. The academy runs from January 4, 2027 to April 23, 2027, with candidates required to stay on campus during training.
Responsibilities
- Patrol
- Answering calls for service
- Traffic enforcement
Requirements
- Minimum age 21 years
- No felony convictions
- Valid Illinois driver’s license
- Possess a FOID card
- Reside within 30 miles of the Staunton city limits within six months after hire
- Successful completion of the POWER Test (December 1, 2026)
- Agreement to sign a three‑year employment contract
