Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen
- High School graduate; 60+ college credit hours preferred
- 21 years old at time of graduation from the Police Academy (20 years and 3 months old at time of application)
- Possess a valid driver's license and at least 6 months driving experience
- Successfully complete all requirements of the Background and Selection Process

Selection Process Steps
To be considered for employment, applicants must successfully complete all of the following steps:
- Submit an online application
- Preliminary Application and Applicant History Review
- Register with the National Testing Network (NTN) to complete the Written Exam at www.nationaltestingnetwork.com
- Download and complete the participation waiver
- Self-schedule (online) and pass the APRT
- Preliminary Documents and Records Check
If sufficient vacancies exist, applicants at this stage may be contacted to continue into the Background Investigation process, which includes:
- Download, complete, and submit the Personal History Statement (PHS)
- Initial Interview
- Background Investigation
- Oral Board
- Polygraph Examination
- Psychological Screening
- Medical Examination & Drug Screening Test
- Hiring Consideration
- Final Offer of Employment
- Graduation from the Prince George's County Police Academy
Additional Information
Applicants who provide proof of military service or a Bachelor's degree are exempt from taking the written exam. The Prince George's County Police Department partners with the National Testing Network (NTN) to administer the written examination. To register with NTN and schedule a test, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select 'Find Jobs', then select Law Enforcement Jobs and sign up for Prince George's County Police. Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded. Candidates who attain a passing score will be placed on the eligibility list. Police Department Recruiters will contact candidates on the list to invite them to participate in further stages.
All applicants must apply through www.governmentjobs.com in addition to registering and testing with NTN. Using a mobile device to complete the application is not recommended; use a desktop or laptop computer to carefully read and understand all aspects of applying.

The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31. A spouse (including same-sex spouse) can be added to health benefit plans with a marriage certificate and social security number. Children under 26 are eligible for coverage, including stepchildren and children of same-sex spouse, with birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) required. New employees must enroll within 30 days of hire. The effective date of coverage is the beginning of the month following a 45-day waiting period from the date of hire. Changes may only be made during open enrollment (usually each October) or due to a family status change.
