About the role
Otterbein University is seeking a Police Officer to ensure the safety and security of persons and property on campus. The role involves enforcing laws, investigating incidents, patrolling, and maintaining campus equipment.
Responsibilities
- Enforce local, state, and federal criminal laws, University judicial rules and regulations, traffic, and parking regulations.
- Obtain warrants, apprehend, arrest, search, pat down, handcuff, pursue, and secure suspects with appropriate force.
- Transport prisoners and testify in criminal court or University judicial hearings.
- Investigate criminal violations, judicial violations, traffic crashes, and citizen complaints.
- Protect crime scenes and preserve evidence.
- Patrol on foot and in motor vehicles, including university-owned golf carts, providing assistance as needed.
- Lock and unlock buildings, provide escorts, manage traffic and parking, and report safety/security concerns.
- Maintain and operate patrol vehicles and departmental equipment, including firearms, tasers, pepper spray, batons, handcuffs, radios, computers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, and first aid equipment.
- Operate campus emergency notification systems, Clery notification system, panic alarm systems, fire panel systems, WOCC TV system, and camera systems.
- Enter work orders as needed.
- Demonstrate competency in verbal and written communications with all constituencies.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Pass an extensive background investigation, including a criminal history and credit check.
- At least 21 years old.
- Corrected vision to 20/20 and no color blindness.
- Successfully complete and meet all standards, including academic, physical fitness, medical, psychological, and truth verification.
- Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission certificate in good standing.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license with no more than six points on the record.
