Police Officer

About the Role

The Muhlenberg College Department of Campus Safety is seeking a full-time police officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be committed to working with all members of our campus community, providing for the safety and security of our campus environment.

Responsibilities

• Support Muhlenberg's commitment to a campus experience that ensures students, faculty, and staff of all backgrounds feel welcome, respected, valued, and included.
• Patrol campus and all college buildings with attention to life/safety issues, including dangerous conditions, fire hazards, equipment conditions, building security, and enforcement of laws and college policies.
• Provide complete operations reports to the Director of Campus Safety and Campus Police Supervisor.
• Assume responsibility for operations in emergency situations, such as fires, bomb threats, catastrophes, and armed intruder incidents.
• Conduct initial investigations of criminal complaints, perform follow-up investigations, and document information within the Omnigo Report System.
• Assist Student Health and Counseling Services in handling emergency concerns.
• Provide traffic control, issue parking tickets, and perform safety inspections as needed.
• Assist the public and campus community with public relations services.
• Carry, maintain, and safeguard College-owned firearms and issued equipment.
• Assist with training, crime prevention, and educational programs for faculty, staff, and students.
• Inspect and maintain patrol equipment and vehicles.
• Work with computer systems, including card access, fire alarms, camera systems, and ID systems.
• Accept, document, and package property and evidence in accordance with department policies.
• Dispatch for short or extended periods based on departmental needs.
• Review and stay updated on department policies and complete required training and certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred, or relevant professional experience in an academic environment.
• Act 235 certification with Firearm required; Act 120 certification preferred.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification required.
• Clean criminal background and valid PA driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to work various shifts, including overtime, and perform physical duties such as driving, walking stairs, standing for extended periods, and lifting 50 pounds.
• Demonstrated computer proficiency and satisfactory written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and conduct oneself professionally.
• Successful completion of reference and background checks, pre-employment physical, and drug screening.

Schedule

Full-time position with an anticipated schedule of 40 hours per week. Two Night-shift options are available: 11:00 PM - 07:00 AM five days per week or 09:00 PM to 07:00 AM four days a week, with every other weekend off.
