About the role
This position performs both investigative and patrol/traffic duties within Heber City’s Public Safety division. Routine responsibilities include responding to calls, securing crime scenes, interviewing witnesses, making arrests, and preparing reports. The role also involves complex criminal investigations, surveillance, covert operations, and court testimony as needed.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and complex criminal investigations, process crime scenes, identify and preserve evidence, interview witnesses/victims/suspects, secure scenes, and prepare reports.
- Manage investigative caseloads; assist with felony cases (e.g., rape, homicide); investigate child sex and abuse crimes; follow up on assigned cases; pursue leads and secure suspect information.
- Investigate business complaints involving theft, forgery, scams, embezzlement, and white-collar crimes; alert businesses and the community about check forgeries and short-change artists; obtain search warrants; coordinate with city and county attorneys.
- Prepare evidence and statements for court; secure witnesses and testimonies; create visual diagrams of crime scenes; perform extraditions; testify in court when necessary.
- Participate in drug investigations, including covert operations, narcotics sales/purchase/use cases, prescription and pharmacy record reviews, arrests, and court appearances.
- Serve as a first responder for emergency medical, fire, infrastructure, natural disaster, and bio-hazard calls; patrol city streets, alleys, and buildings on foot, bicycle, or in a vehicle.
- Check for unlocked doors/windows and building security; conduct residential and business checks for illegal activity; respond to calls for assistance; secure crime scenes; interview complainants, witnesses, and suspects; complete complaint questionnaires and follow-up reports.
- Enforce traffic laws and ordinances; direct traffic; issue citations and warnings for moving violations, DUI, and investigate motor vehicle accidents; prepare accident and offense reports.
- Serve processes, notices, summons, and subpoenas; maintain records of dispositions; escort prisoners; subdue unruly prisoners when necessary.
- Complete daily activity and enforcement reports; prepare for court cases and testify when required.
Passing a pre-employment background check and drug screening is required for employment.
