About the Role
This is the non-supervisory, entry-level position for Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) sworn law enforcement officers. Officers will ensure the safety and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors, maintain peace and order while enforcing college rules, regulations, state and federal laws, and provide law enforcement protection and related services for Collin College. This is an essential position and may require working overtime or responding when summoned due to an emergency as determined by the College. Responsibilities
- Patrol campus grounds and buildings, checking doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are properly secured.
- Conduct preliminary criminal investigations, accident/injury investigations, and submit reports.
- Prepare criminal cases and present testimony in court.
- Make court appearances.
- Write thorough and accurate reports on every criminal complaint, accident, or other significant incident.
- Provide assistance to all students, faculty, and visitors, and respond to calls for first aid and medical assistance.
- Apply acquired expanded skills related to analytical, technical, or operational processes.
- Complete assigned work within own area of expertise under clearly defined standard operating procedures and quality guidelines.
- Work under a moderate degree of supervision.
- Patrol campus to enforce laws and parking regulations.
- Provide security for special events and information to the campus community and general public.
- Conduct parking enforcement; write parking tickets and provide directions to park in designated areas.
- Conduct crime prevention programs and surveys for students, faculty, and staff.
- Work closely with college administrators to reduce and mitigate conflicts.
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.
- May be required to take offensive and/or defensive action during physical confrontations.
- May be exposed to animal and human body fluids, hazards of emergency driving, traffic control, natural and man-made disasters, inclement weather, and extreme temperatures.
- May involve exposure to emergency public safety environments, disaster situations, potentially hostile environments, and dangerous individuals.
- Requires the ability to discharge a firearm safely and operate motorized equipment and assigned vehicles safely.
- Requires frequent contact with the public.
- Subject to extended periods of intense concentration in review of crime scenes, investigations, and preparing law enforcement reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned and maintain all standards in accordance with college policies, procedures, and Core Values.
Requirements
- 24 earned college credit hours from an accredited college or university.
- Pass the DPS Concept 2 row test with 25% or greater.
- Pass a standardized written aptitude test with 70% overall or greater.
- Possess a TCOLE peace officer license or be eligible to obtain licensure prior to the date of employment.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with a driving record that meets the criteria established by CCPD.
- Pass Collin College Police Department’s field training program once hired.
- Maintain TCOLE Peace Officer’s license throughout employment.
- Pass extensive medical screening, drug testing, psychological exam, polygraph exam, and background investigation.
- Ability to drive a patrol vehicle; a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) will be conducted during the contingent offer stage and annually/bi-annually.
- This position is security-sensitive; candidates will be subject to a criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of continued police officer experience, or
- Two (2) years of military experience with an honorable discharge, or
- One (1) year experience as a military police officer with an honorable discharge.
The Chief of Police has the discretion to waive college hours for lateral police officers with 15 years or more experience.
Skills
- Knowledge of state, federal, and local laws, current legislation, and best practices.
- Detailed knowledge of state statutes, Board of Trustee policies and procedures, Police Department, and federal regulations.
- Strong, positive interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication.
- Innovative, comprehensive, and analytical thinking.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and software programs designed for police department use.
- Proficiency in the use of firearms and critical analysis of issues.

- Ethical and honest in interactions with others and in the performance of duties.
- Provide quality control for the delivery of police department services and documentation.
- Ability to drive a patrol vehicle.
- Vision (near, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception) with the ability to detect and observe movement and activity in extremely low light situations.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make sound discrimination.
- Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, including conveying detailed or important spoken instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and reports.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Heavy Work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Positions typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking, and repetitive motions, plus stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- May be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises, gases, and workspace restrictions.
- Frequent exposure to vibrations, chemicals, and oils.
- Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards; majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
- Frequent physical effort required.
Pay
Compensation is determined based on experience. Hiring range: $66,040.00 – $80,537.50.
Schedule
Full-time. This is an essential position and may require working overtime or responding when summoned due to an emergency as determined by the College.
