Police Officer

About the role

The purpose of this position is to perform a wide variety of police duties to ensure the just enforcement of state and local laws relating to public safety and welfare. The incumbent must be able to exercise independent judgment and perform duties according to detailed instructions with strict adherence to prescribed standards and procedures, without close supervision.

Responsibilities

• Exposure to life‑threatening circumstances (personal danger)
• Apprehending criminals
• Transporting prisoners
• Performing related work as required
• Reporting to the Sergeant and/or Lieutenant as assigned

Requirements

• At least 21 years of age
• High school diploma or GED; if GED, either 12 hours of college credit with ≥2.0 GPA (4.0 scale) or 2 years of US military service with Honorable Discharge
• Eligible for TCOLE certification or already certified
• Ability to pass a background investigation (polygraph, psychological, physical/drug screen)
• U.S. Citizenship
• Ability to pass a physical agility test

Pay

• Police Cadet: $23.63 per hour
• Police Officer Certified: $36.13 per hour
