About the role

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) is seeking current Police Officers with two or more years of uninterrupted full time law enforcement experience, having obtained a certification as a law enforcement officer through a State Police Standards and Training Commission. We are now accepting lateral applications.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a training program that consists of courses in criminal law, firearms training, first aid, traffic accident investigation, traffic law enforcement, human relations, crime scene research, patrol procedures, departmental policies, report writing, and other related areas.
  • Physical training will be optional for this program.

Requirements

  • At least two (2) years as a full-time, certified (Tennessee P.O.S.T. Certification or equivalent State certification) law enforcement officer.
  • No more than 3 years since last break-in service.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • A U.S. citizen at the time of hire, or per Tennessee House Bill 0765, a permanent legal resident of the United States who is an honorably discharged veteran of the United States armed forces may be employed as a Police Officer.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must successfully complete a medical and psychological examination with standards set out in the Metropolitan Charter.
  • Must successfully complete Criminal History Background.
  • Must successfully complete CVSA.
  • Must successfully complete Drug Testing.
  • Must successfully complete FTO program (Field Training Officer).

  • Education incentives available to qualified candidates.
  • Pre-academy hiring opportunities may be available.
  • Eligible for transfers to Preferred/Specialized assignments after 1 year.

Skills

  • Fluent with a language, other than English, in both written and spoken word.

Pay

Step 3 $81,114.00 to Step 15 $102,871.00 without education incentive
Step 3 $83,547.42 to Step 15 $105,957.13 with Associate’s degree.
Step 3 $85,980.84 to Step 15 $109,043.26 with Bachelor’s degree.

Schedule

The Metro Nashville Police Department is a 24/7 operation. Employees must be able to work any day and/or shift, as needed, to include weekends, holidays and other mandated assignments.

  • Per TCA code 38-8-106, applicants for Public Safety positions shall "Not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge OR to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor, controlled substances".
