Pohnpeian Interpreter

About the role

LanguageLine Solutions is a company dedicated to breaking down language and cultural barriers. We employ interpreters to help limited-English speakers, the Deaf, and the Hard-of-Hearing. This role allows you to work remotely from your home.

Responsibilities

• Handle interpreting sessions promptly and professionally.
• Render accurate interpretations of conversations between Pohnpeian and English speakers.
• Speak clearly and politely in both languages.
• Maintain a professional demeanor during interpreting sessions.
• Stay calm and neutral during emotionally charged or stressful calls.
• Understand and follow industry-specific protocols and terminologies.
• Show cultural sensitivity and work in a diverse environment.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Pohnpeian and English with cultural understanding.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive topics and emergencies.
• Education or experience in language-related fields preferred.
• Adaptable to LLS technology enhancements.
• At least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the US.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write both requested languages preferred.

Technical Requirements

• Dedicated personal device for business use.
• Desktop/Laptop computers with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS operating systems.
• Tablets (iPadOS or Android) and smartphones (iOS or Android) are acceptable.
• High-speed internet connection with download speeds of at least 5 Mbps, upload speeds of at least 3 Mbps, and ping values under 300 ms.
• A quiet workspace free from background noise or distractions.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to operate a keyboard and mouse for most of the workday.
• Sufficient manual dexterity to type or write.
• Able to lift up to 26 lbs.
• Exposure to moderate noise levels.
