About the role

The Newcastle Podiatry Department is offering a permanent Band 5 Podiatrist position within the community Podiatry team. This role provides a foundation for a career in NHS podiatry, delivering high-quality podiatric interventions in clinical and domiciliary settings across Newcastle Upon Tyne. The position requires flexibility, a driving license, and access to transport for work purposes.

Responsibilities

• Work across community podiatry clinics, conduct home visits, and provide treatments in care home settings.
• Manage a variable caseload, including high-risk patients with diabetes and other underlying health conditions.
• Participate in a rotation programme into Diabetes, Nail Surgery, and Biomechanics, learning from experienced senior clinicians.
• Follow Trust and departmental policies and procedures to support effective healthcare delivery within the clinical governance framework.
• Liaise with carers and other healthcare professionals to optimise patient care.
• Provide safe and effective care to patients in line with Trust and departmental guidelines.

Requirements

• Degree in Podiatry and registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• POM-A (Prescriptions Only Medicines – Administration) registration with HCPC.
• Current clean UK driving licence and access to transport for work purposes.
• Ability to work flexibly across Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Podiatry Diploma/Degree.
• State registration with HCPC.
• POM-A registration.
• Experience dealing with a varied caseload of patients.
• Critical and reflective practice.

Desirable

• POM-S (Prescriptions Only Medicines – Supply) registration with HCPC.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Evidence of relevant self-directed learning.

Skills & Abilities

• Range of podiatric clinical skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Analytical skills and ability to manage non-compliance or conflict.
• Good computer skills.
• High level of manual dexterity for scalpel use and sharp debridement.
• Commitment to personal health and wellbeing to perform the role effectively.
