About the role
The Senator John Heinz History Center is a Smithsonian-affiliated Museum and a first-day Pittsburgh attraction that presents compelling stories from American history with a Western Pennsylvania connection, all in an interactive and engaging environment for visitors of all ages. The largest history museum in Pennsylvania, the AAM-accredited History Center attracts large and diverse audiences to its 370,000-square-foot facility in Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District that includes six floors of long-term and changing exhibition space along with spectacular spaces for unique events.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and execute security procedures ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of the facilities, facilities' contents, staff, and patrons.
- Be the first and last point of contact in the building, responding to questions from the public regarding the History Center – directions within, amenities, exhibit components, and facilities.
- Operate security systems such as cameras, fire and burglar alarms.
- Assist with overall risk management – locating, correcting, and/or reporting threats of all kinds to the organization.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the History Center exhibits, programs, and emergency response protocols while providing extraordinary customer service/interactions.
- Maintain a high degree of attentiveness and pro-activity, especially during times when the officer may be the only person in the building.
Requirements
- High school education or equivalent required with 2 years security experience.
- Extremely attentive to security monitors, alarms, and execution of security procedures ensuring the safety of the patrons during late evening event rentals, evening/night staff, facilities, and other facility contents.
- Moderately physically demanding, requiring the ability to be both a multi-team player and function independently with a lot of self-motivation.
