About the Role

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Physician Assistant (PA) serves as an extension of TOA’s Orthopaedic Physicians, playing a critical role in holistic patient care. PAs provide routine clinical care, assist physicians, and ensure high-quality treatment for orthopaedic patients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused history and physical examinations.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies (e.g., x-rays, MRIs, CTs).
  • Establish diagnoses, determine treatment plans, and implement necessary ancillaries.
  • Order additional or selective studies/laboratory evaluations as needed.
  • Work closely with TOA providers to evaluate and treat patients in the office setting.
  • Provide procedures, assess patient needs, and conduct appropriate follow-up.
  • Prepare written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances, including refills.
  • Assist physicians or ancillary staff in applying specialized orthopaedic devices (e.g., braces).
  • Fit and measure patients for orthopaedic devices.
  • Record patient progress notes and transcribe orders.
  • Triage patient telephone calls, provide consultation, and educate patients and representatives.
  • Ensure monitoring and continuity of care, including supporting documentation and coding.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
  • Protect patient privacy in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Travel to multiple clinics or satellite offices as required.
  • Operating room experience is required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Experience in orthopaedic practices preferred.
  • Current and active licenses and certifications.
  • Exceptional customer service and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail.
