About the role
Barton Associates is seeking a highly motivated Plumbing Designer for their Pittsburgh office. The role involves inputting data into computer programs, performing basic design calculations, designing and laying out basic project elements, researching code requirements, and assisting in preparing studies and reports.
Responsibilities
- Performs basic design calculations
- Designs and lays out basic project elements
- Researches code requirements
- Aids in preparing studies and reports
- Becomes familiar with discipline technical specifications
- Performs basic fieldwork, surveys, and research to document existing conditions
- Assists in preparing studies, reports, opinions, and recommendations for the approval of the project lead Engineer
- Makes recommendations regarding basic systems
- Performs design calculations and makes basic design layouts required in the projection of a complete set of working drawings
- Aids in the design of more complex system elements
- Researches code requirements
- Aids in the preparation of opinions of probable construction costs
- Consults with public agencies and other organizations concerning utilities, design requirements, and required approvals
- Assists the lead Engineer or Construction Services Representative during construction by reviewing shop drawings, responding to informational requests, preparing addendums and/or bulletins, and making site visits
- May delegate drafting tasks of designs he/she has originated to BIM technicians and supervise production of same
- Coordinates discipline components and design with other project team members
Requirements
- While serving as a BIM Technician, demonstrates proficiency in performing the responsibilities of this position on a consistent basis, or 2-year degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology
- While serving as a Designer, demonstrates proficiency in performing the responsibilities of this position on a consistent basis, or Accredited 4-year Engineering degree and has passed the EIT exam
- While serving as a lead Designer, demonstrates proficiency in performing the responsibilities of this position on a consistent basis
- Ability to remain current with discipline state-of-the-art design
- Ability to learn and become knowledgeable in various codes and regulations concerning discipline
- Intermediate written and oral communication skills
- Intermediate to advanced level working with AutoCAD, BIM, REVIT, and Microsoft Office365
