Plumbing Designer - Houston

About the role

We’re looking for a talented Plumbing Designer to join our progressive Engineering Team at our office in Houston, TX. This position requires a passion for engineering and a commitment to design excellence.

Responsibilities

• Work with engineering team members and consultants to design plumbing systems that meet project requirements and local building codes.
• Create detailed plumbing drawings and specifications for water supply, drainage, sewage, fire protection, medical gases, and specialty water systems.
• Perform and document plumbing calculations, such as fixture units, to size water supplies, drain, waste, and vent systems, storm drain sizing, medical gas sizing, domestic hot water loads, and natural gas sizing.
• Select plumbing materials like pipes, fittings, valves, and pumps based on system requirements, budget, and compatibility with client needs and architectural designs.
• Stay updated with local plumbing codes, regulations, and industry standards.
• Prepare technical reports to communicate design intent and requirements to clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
• Conduct project site visits and field observations to ensure plumbing installations are implemented according to design plans and quality standards.
• Identify and resolve design or installation issues that may arise.

Requirements

• Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering field, desired.
• 4-7 years of plumbing design or related field experience.
• CPD or CPDT certification, desired.
• Knowledge of plumbing codes, regulations, and industry standards.
• Proficiency in Revit software.
• Knowledge of fire protection systems, sizing, codes, and regulations, desired.
• Knowledge of healthcare and education design, desired.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to work effectively under deadlines.
• Familiarity with sustainable plumbing practices and technologies.
