Plumbing Apprentice
Position Overview
The Plumbing Apprentice is responsible for assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems and related equipment in accordance with company standards, safety requirements, and applicable codes. This entry-level role supports field operations while developing technical skills, installation knowledge, and operational experience within plumbing construction and service environments.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems, fixtures, piping, and related equipment.
- Support field personnel with jobsite preparation, material handling, equipment setup, and installation activities.
- Read and interpret basic blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and work orders as assigned.
- Assist with measuring, cutting, assembling, and installing piping and plumbing components under supervision.
- Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in safe and organized condition.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety procedures, plumbing codes, and operational standards.
- Support jobsite organization, material tracking, and overall operational efficiency.
- Maintain accurate work orders, installation documentation, and jobsite records as required.
- Coordinate with field personnel, supervisors, vendors, and internal departments regarding jobsite needs and project updates.
- Provide professional customer interactions and maintain positive working relationships on jobsites.
- Participate in training and skill development activities to expand plumbing knowledge and field capabilities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of plumbing systems, tools, materials, and construction practices preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret basic technical documents and work instructions.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in fast-paced field environments and adapt to changing priorities.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and mobile devices.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a field team.
- Ability to pass pre-employment screenings such as background and motor vehicle record checks.
- English speaking, reading, and writing preferred, and required where necessary to perform job duties.
- Maintain professionalism and a positive, respectful demeanor with customers, coworkers, and business partners.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous construction, plumbing, or field experience preferred.
- Enrollment in or completion of plumbing trade training preferred.
- Relevant industry certifications or licenses preferred, and required where necessary to perform job duties.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without current or future need for employer sponsorship.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to work overtime, modified schedules, or occasional weekends as business needs require.
- Stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
- Sit for extended periods while driving to and between job sites.
- Work on active job sites, indoors and outdoors, including attics, crawlspaces, and confined or elevated spaces, with exposure to varying weather, construction noise, dust, and other job site conditions.
- Wear safety gear such as Personal Protective Equipment.
- Maintain dependable transportation and consistent, reliable attendance to meet customer service and operational needs.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions within established company policies and procedures.
- Communicate in person, by phone, and electronically, including on a tablet, smartphone, and other office technology.
- Travel as required to support project and operational needs.
- Perform all work on-site and in person; this is not a remote or hybrid position.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
