About the Role

The Plumbing/Appliance Assistant works directly with the Plumbing/Appliance Team Lead to support the successful completion of Plumbing/Appliance projects both locally and regionally. This role involves developing, maintaining, and interacting with a broad scope of new and existing customers and clientele to increase sales of products and services. The assistant performs activities associated with selling, client selections, design, ordering, and overall management of a specialized department.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome clients by greeting them, assisting, and engaging in conversation to determine needs.
  • Provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • Maintain showroom product knowledge and assist colleagues in other departments to provide additional items or services for customers.
  • Assist homeowners and trade professionals with design needs based on individual project requirements.
  • Read and understand architectural plans.
  • Create estimates for materials and installation, meeting bid deadlines.
  • Track and maintain job opportunities via Design Schedule software.
  • Use computer programs including Outlook, Elements, Bluebeam, 2020, AutoCad, and others specified for the department.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current trends, markets, and product lines.
  • Work closely with accounting to inform them of project statuses for correct invoicing.
  • Follow up with clients on any open accounts receivable.
  • Create, track, and manage purchase orders to vendors.
  • Participate in local activities such as Home Shows, Parade of Homes, and others.
  • Engage in professional development activities.
  • Participate in opening and closing procedures, including use of the alarm system.
  • Answer phones and direct calls appropriately.
  • Order and label samples.
  • Keep the showroom and Plumbing/Appliance areas organized.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or Design is preferred.
  • Experience within the building, design, or architecture industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of product areas and lines is preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Math and English.
  • Clean driving record, able to meet insurability qualifications.

Work Environment

This position operates in a warehouse and job-site setting, with outdoor exposure during the workday. Routine use of equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and standard warehouse equipment (e.g., hand trucks, box cutters, and heavy machinery like forklifts) is required.

The physical demands include lifting approximately 25 pounds, occasional lifting of small objects and samples, sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, and finger dexterity.

Schedule

This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with additional hours and schedule changes as needed for business purposes. Travel is primarily local, up to 1 hour driving distance during the business day may be expected.
