Plumbing Aide
Seasonal position within the Parks & Recreation Department. Hours of operation are 7:00am - 3:30pm; all scheduled shifts will occur within that window. Placement on the Seasonal Pay Scale relates directly to position, qualifications, and experience with the City of Pocatello. Employment is contingent on passing a background check.
About the role
Perform manual, skilled, and unskilled labor in the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of grounds and facilities at City parks, public rights-of-way, and a wide array of City buildings and infrastructure. Requires working knowledge of construction and landscape techniques, general cleaning and janitorial methods, and safe use of hand and power tools. Must maintain collaborative working relationships with officials, employees, organizations, and the public. Capable of operating vehicles safely with an acceptable driving record.
The work environment includes indoor and outdoor conditions, exposure to weather, wet/humid conditions, dust, odors, gases, mechanical hazards, and driving a vehicle as part of the position. This role may require working days, evenings, and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic irrigation system repairs: digging up and replacing sprinkler heads and valves, troubleshooting irrigation time clocks.
- Inspect sprinkler heads for proper operation and make adjustments as needed.
- Assist with installation of new irrigation systems and retrofitting old systems.
- Daily reporting of assigned job completion status to supervisor.
- Drive City vehicles and trailers; load and transport large maintenance equipment to various park, beautification, and construction sites.
Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Two to five years of experience may be required; specialized certifications, construction, or supervisory experience may be required.
- Idaho Driver’s license is required.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
- Hand/finger dexterity to handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms.
- Operate job-related equipment and drive a vehicle.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform essential functions and interact with the public.
