Plumber - Various Shifts - Weekends/Holidays

About the role

Located at NewYork‑Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, NY, this full‑time Plumber position works rotating shifts (day, evening, night) and includes weekends, holidays, and on‑call emergencies. The role involves maintaining, installing, and repairing plumbing systems throughout the hospital complex. All roles require on‑site presence; employees must live within a commutable distance to NYP and travel expenses are not reimbursed.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine maintenance on all plumbing equipment in the Hospital complex.
• Fits valves, couplings and other specified parts and fittings to pipe sections by screwing, bolting or soldering.
• Attaches pipe assemblies to walls or ceilings with brackets or hangers.
• Installs plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, toilets, showers, medical gas equipment, oxygen and suction systems, and connects them to outlet and inlet pipes.
• Repairs plumbing fixtures, including worn washers, valves, etc.
• Solders and caulks leaks and broken pipes.
• Constructs minor metal work, such as strainers, shelves and chart locks.
• Silver‑solders and keeps all kitchen equipment in working order.
• May be required to perform Tinsmith work as necessary.
• Performs routine preventive maintenance on all plumbing equipment.
• Maintains Mechanical Rooms.
• Cooperates with team members to resolve maintenance problems within shop or area in an efficient and timely manner.

Requirements

• High School Degree or GED
• Three to five years’ experience in plumbing
• Experienced in plumbing trade and basic working knowledge of all other trades
• Must be available for weekends, evenings, nights, holidays, emergencies and scheduled work/outages
• Must adhere to and follow shift coverage procedures

Qualifications

• Valid and current driver’s license
• New York City Certificate of Fitness for Compressed Gases (to be obtained within first year)
• ASSE 6040 Medical Gas Systems Maintainer (within 6 months of hire)
