About the role
Works under general supervision, performs work in the installation, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems.
Core duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for preventative and corrective maintenance of all hospital plumbing systems.
- Maintains, troubleshoots, and tests plumbing systems; assembles, installs, and repairs pumps, pipes, fittings, and fixtures; pump alignment; cuts, threads, and welds pipes; assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes.
- Supervises general maintenance workers by allocating and coordinating work flow, training, and advising, in more complex plumbing repair work throughout the hospital.
- Provides skilled preventive and corrective repair work throughout the hospital.
- Has access to, and is responsible for, performing assigned duties in locked medication rooms. This position is aware that they are not responsible for medications and they should report any unsecured medications to a licensed professional.
- Performs other maintenance duties as directed.
Minimum qualifications
- Valid driver's license.
- Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided: WV: Plumbers License through the West Virginia Department of Labor.
- To be completed as established by department (administered at Department level): Mechanical Aptitude test.
Preferred qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Physical requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb and work off of ladders, scaffolding or electric lifts and operate basic manual cleaning equipment.
Working environment
- Frequent exposure to risk of electrical shock.
- Cognizant of environmental factors, infection control issues and maintains a safe environment.
Skills and abilities
- Ability to work based on operational needs of the hospital.
- Possess ability to relay information, and deal tactfully and harmoniously with others.
Schedule: 40 hours per week, non-exempt
