Plumber
About the role
The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), in partnership with the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) at Fort Wainwright, is seeking a full-time Plumber (Crafts & Trades 3, CT3) to join their skilled maintenance team. This position performs routine installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, domestic water, and sanitary drainage systems across Fort Wainwright facilities.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures
- Plan and schedule work orders, preventative maintenance, and multi-craft projects
- Coordinate with multiple trades
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other trades
- Plan, schedule, and prioritize work orders independently
- Apply analytical thinking to diagnose and resolve system issues efficiently
- Obtain a State of Alaska Certificate of Fitness related to asbestos operations within six months
- Experience in fire, water, and disaster damage remediation is beneficial
Requirements
- Journeyman level or equivalent certification in the plumbing trade; with a minimum of 15 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Alaska Driver’s License
- U.S. Citizenship
- Able to obtain a CAC and access military installations
Qualifications
- Comprehensive technical knowledge of plumbing systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, domestic water, and sanitary drainage systems
- Extensive hands-on experience supported by journeyman-level certification or equivalent
- Strong skills in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and technical documents
- Effective communication skills—both written and verbal
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve efficiently
- Adaptable to the evolving demands of a military facility environment
- Ability to work under pressure and committed to continuous learning
Skills
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, using hand tools, and following safety regulations

Pay
CT3 / Step 1: $32.51/hr. (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule).
Schedule
This position is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt Local 6070 staff position complete with a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
