Performs journeyman level work in the alteration and repair of plumbing systems and equipment in the hospital.

Essential Functions

• Performs journeyman level work in the alteration and repair of plumbing systems and equipment in the hospital.
• Repairs and performs preventative maintenance on a wide variety of plumbing systems and equipment in conformance with the city plumbing code.
• Locates broken or worn equipment through inspections, observations, and tests.
• Tests installed equipment and plumbing upon completion.
• Fulfills blueprints and equipment literature for repairs.
• Troubleshoots sprinkler systems, medical gas systems, deionized water systems, sewage systems, steam and condensate systems and equipment.

Physical Activity Requirements

• Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
• Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
• Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction while using power or hand tools, reaching to work on equipment, etc.
• Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees, such as when painting.
• Pushing/Pulling: Using upper extremities to press against something to force forward or backward.
• Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
• Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.

• Standard medical and nursing equipment
• Special equipment or office equipment found in the assigned area

Working Conditions

• Subject to both environmental conditions: activities occur inside and outside.
• Subject to extreme cold: temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour such as when doing snow removal.
• Subject to extreme heat: temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour such as when working on roof top units.
• Subject to noise from power tools, fans, compressors and other loud equipment.
• Subject to vibrations from using power tools, working around large equipment and other equipment.
• Subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
• Subject to atmospheric conditions: one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: chemicals used in cleaning wood dust and fumes form glues, etc.
