Overview
Our Plumber provides plumbing maintenance to all areas of Memorial Health as assigned. Ensures that work is completed per established policies/procedures, work order specifications, and appropriate codes.
Qualifications
- State Plumbing License required.
- Certification in backflow preventers preferred.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the MHS Fleet Safety Policy (five-year MVR required).
- OSHA-certified forklift operator (on-site training provided).
Experience
- Four years of plumbing experience required.
- Commercial and/or healthcare experience strongly preferred.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read, understand, and apply complex building codes (e.g., NFPA, Joint Commission).
- Proficiency in plumbing theory, blueprint reading, and technical specifications.
- Strong attention to detail for extended periods.
- Basic computer knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize and coordinate plumbing installations, repairs, and maintenance of pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, water, and drainage systems in compliance with codes and specifications.
- Install new plumbing for water, steam, condensate, sewer, air, oxygen, vacuum, nitrous oxide, drains, vents, sterilizers, and related equipment.
- Review building plans and drawings to determine work aids and installation sequences.
- Inspect structures to avoid obstructions and prevent structural weakening during pipe installation.
- Install and repair plumbing fixtures, including sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, dishwashers, and water softeners.
- Maintain plumbing systems by replacing washers, mending burst pipes, and clearing clogged drains.
- Perform and document preventative maintenance.
- Identify and report asbestos in work areas.
- Interact courteously and cooperatively with patients, hospital personnel, and visitors.
- Maintain professional appearance and adhere to safety procedures.
- Assist in achieving division goals and coordinate work to meet customer needs.
- Optimize time and material efficiency in work practices.
- Participate in the department on-call rotation for miscellaneous hospital calls.
- Perform other related duties as required or requested.
