Plumber
About the role
The Fitter/Plumber will perform maintenance/installation of piping, plumbing, and tubing systems and components, potentially in a nuclear facility. They will inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain mechanical/piping and tubing systems and their components. They will also couple and align mechanical/piping, tubing systems, and components.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain high-pressure/hazardous material and waste systems.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain fire systems, fire hydrants, fire protection fluid systems, air dryers, and heat exchangers.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on piping and tubing systems and components.
- Read and interpret drawings and sketches proficiently.
- Review scope with customers to define job requirements, offer recommendations for improving product outcomes, and provide status updates on jobs in progress to project managers and management.
- Resolve problems and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Participate in work planning walk-downs, material identification/recommendation, man-hour estimating, and material procurement as required.
- Obtain and maintain applicable qualifications.
- Work to drawings, schematics, and work specifications to produce successful outcomes using modern techniques and tools of the trade.
- Work extended periods of time in Radiological work areas, including the required PPE (Respiratory Protection, etc.).
Requirements
- High School Diploma (or equivalent).
- Plumbing Journeyman License.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license for duration of employment.
- Must be capable of obtaining Radiological Worker Qualification within 45 days of starting work and maintain qualification for duration of employment.
- The Ideal Candidate Will Possess Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification/License.
- Experience with stainless steel and industrial fittings.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Ability to work to drawings, schematics, and work specifications to produce successful outcomes utilizing modern techniques and tools of the trade.
- Ability to obtain and maintain applicable qualifications.
- Mastery of knowledge base and skill associated with technical specialty.
- Ability to work extended periods of time in Radiological work areas including the required PPE (Respiratory Protection, etc.).
Skills
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
- Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.

Pay
(1) Introductory Pay: $42.63/hr
(2) Fully Qualified Pay: $47.86 (Rate can vary based upon individual work location, clearances, and qualifications. Rates are accurate for current posting and subject to change)

- Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Fitter/Plumber to work on our Materials and Fuels Complex Mechanical team.
- The team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off.
