About the role
The Facilities Management (FM) department at Cornell University is seeking a Plumber, Pipefitter, and Sprinkler Fitter to install and maintain all building and utility distribution piping systems. This is an Endowed, union position within the Building Trades Council.
Responsibilities
- Install and maintain all building and utility distribution piping systems
- Read and understand shop and field drawings/documents
- Work in various environments including crawl spaces, attics, laboratories, ventilation equipment, mechanical rooms, mechanical shafts, sub basements, and confined/isolated areas
- Inspect and work in confined, isolated areas
- Handle heavy material to job sites
- Ascend and descend heights, have agility and freedom of movement, ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffold
- Communicate across differences, be cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming, show respect, compassion, and empathy, engage and support others regardless of background or perspective, speak up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately, and support work/life integration of oneself and others
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent with at least 5 years of experience in plumbing or related field
- Valid US driver’s license
- Ability to work overtime as needed, including weekends and shifts
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of plumbing, pipefitting, and pipe welding industry
- Apprentice certification desirable
Skills
- Good customer relations, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Able to work in confined, isolated, and hazardous environments
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Pay
The starting pay rate is $41.72 per hour. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria: prior relevant work or industry experience, education level to the extent education is relevant to the position, unique applicable skills, and academic discipline.
