Plumber
About the role
The City of Aurora is seeking a skilled plumber to join its team. This role involves performing skilled plumbing, installation, and repair work on plumbing systems in city-owned or city-leased buildings and facilities.
Responsibilities
- Performs new installation, repair and preventative maintenance of both residential and commercial plumbing systems
- Maintains and inspects facilities, equipment and systems to ensure compliance with State standards and identify necessary repairs or upgrades
- Monitors and oversees contract work for adherence to established standards
- Analyzes malfunctions and makes repairs or adjustments
- Schedules and performs detailed plumbing preventive maintenance tasks
- Schedules, tests, and certifies backflow prevention devices
- Maintains records of operations, maintenance, and repairs
- Prepares related reports; maintains inventory of parts and supplies
- Trains subordinate employees as appropriate
- Acts as lead worker as needed
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Experience: At least 5 years progressively responsible plumbing experience
- Knowledge: Preferred qualifications include knowledge of practices, procedures, equipment, and systems related to assigned functions, applicable safety practices and procedures, current State Plumbing and Building codes, hazards and safety practices common to the construction industry, City policy, procedures, and division work guidelines, mold identification and awareness, asbestos identification and awareness
- Skills: Skill in the use of tools and equipment related to assigned functions, skill in the use of single person lifts and fall protection procedures, skill in monitoring the work of assigned personnel through apprentices
- Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, read and comply with blueprints, diagrams, schematics, manuals and specifications, maintain accurate records, logs and reports, train and instruct other employees, perform physical activities common to building maintenance work, organize, coordinate and direct the work of others, work in unpleasant and sometimes hazardous conditions, organize and schedule resources, materials and equipment to accomplish tasks, supportive team player with a positive attitude and ability to adapt to change, strong commitment to safety
