Plumber
About the role
Under the direction of the Supervising Plumber, this position provides skilled plumbing work in installation, repair, and maintenance of university structures, minor construction and special projects.
Responsibilities
- Maintain piping systems including water, gas, air, steam, vacuum, storm drains, waste lines, irrigation systems, and related traps and valves.
- Performs schedule preventive maintenance requiring repair or replacement of plumbing parts or equipment when necessary.
- Tests, certifies, and repairs backflow preventive devices.
- Saws that tools, materials, and equipment are on hand or available to the job to function efficiently and economically.
- Assists in all University functions, responds to emergency situations as required.
Requirements
The ideal candidate possesses comprehensive knowledge of the Uniform Plumbing Code and applicable Division of Industrial Safety regulations, along with a strong command of plumbing trade tools, equipment, and techniques. They are skilled in reading blueprints, working from plans, rough sketches, and detailed specifications, and fully understand confined-space entry procedures. Experience operating a backhoe is desirable, and they demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills that support positive interactions with colleagues, customers, and the University community.
Qualifications
- Equivalent to a high school diploma and journey-level plumber skills similar to that acquired through the completion of a plumber’s apprenticeship program required.
- Valid California driver's license required.
- City of Long Beach Health Department certificate for Limited Backflow Prevention Device Tester, highly desirable or must be obtained within six (6) months of hiring date.

Pay
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,998 (Step 1) - $8,737 (Step 20) per month.
