About the role
Plan and perform a large variety of difficult plumbing work.
Responsibilities
- Follow established PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) procedures.
- Drill holes in walls and floors for pipe installation.
- Install pipe hangers and insulate piping.
- Exercise some judgement and discretion to disconnect and connect electrical leads on hot water tanks and stills for replacement.
- Exercise judgement working within established procedures encompassing Asbestos, PCB guidelines.
- Follow established Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space and aerial lifts procedures.
- Do planned layout work.
- Exercise independent judgement to estimate materials, costs, and time and personnel requirements.
- Install and repair showers, bathroom fixtures, laboratory plumbing, sewer, gas, air and vacuum lines; hot and cold-water tanks; sewer, water and sump pumps; etc.
- Install and maintain air and ground water sprinkler systems.
- Perform necessary work that is required to seal joints properly.
- Perform necessary Pool, SPA maintenance and testing.
- Perform necessary maintenance and installation of DI, RO laboratory systems.
- Perform necessary maintenance and testing on Backflow preventers
Physical Requirements
- Standing 65% – 90% of the shift
- Frequent bending at the waist; able to bend to below the knee (50 – 80%)
- Frequent stooping and/or crouching (50% – 80% of shift)
- Frequent twisting and bending of head, neck, and torso 75 – 95%)
- Full range of arm movement (extension, twisting, and bending of arm and shoulder, reaching overhead, etc.) (50% – 95%)
- Visual and cognitive capability sufficient to read and interpret diagrams and blueprints, troubleshoot and diagnose problems and make repairs
- Able to perform mathematical computations as necessary to carry out assignments e.g. for installation of boilers, piping etc.
- Wrist and finger dexterity and fine motor skills sufficient to use and use a variety of hand tools e.g. screwdrivers, files, wrenches, chisels, etc.
- Able to handle and operate power tools
- Repetitive arm movement (e.g. hammering)
- May need to work on a ladder, scaffolds, or at other elevated heights
- Able to perform all physical functions needed to drive vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions
- Able to climb up into and down from truck cab
- Able to work in conditions of extreme heat
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds Push/pull up to 75 lbs.
- May be exposed to flames, smoke, strong odors, dust, chlorine and other chemicals
Tools/Equipment
- Use a variety of materials such as galvanized, copper, cast iron, duriron, ABS, PVC, lab tubing, glass tubing and fuseseal.
- Use a variety of hand tools, hand power tools, pipethreader, snake, masonry drill, etc.
