About the role

The Michigan Department of Corrections seeks candidates for multiple positions at various facilities in the Jackson area. These roles involve plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance projects on state properties such as office buildings, prisons, and hospitals. This is an advanced level position with 50% or more prisoner contact and/or supervision.

Responsibilities

• Oversee plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance projects on state properties.
• Perform journey-level plumbing assignments.
• Function as a crew leader, supervising lower-level plumbers, prisoners, and others.
• Handle 50% or more prisoner contact and/or supervision.
• Work in the secured area of the prison.

Requirements

• Must possess a journey plumber’s license issued by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth.
• Five years of experience in the plumbing trade, including one year equivalent to a Plumber E9 in State service.
• Completion of a vocational training program in plumbing that includes commercial or industrial level instruction may substitute for two years of experience assisting skilled trades people.
