Playground Assistant

Essential Functions

• Makes rounds to monitor behavior of students in the lunchroom, on the playground, and classrooms.
• Moves about to provide constant supervision for student safety.
• Makes observations of student activities for inappropriate behaviors such as bullying, unsafe activities, rough play, etc.
• Reminds students of expectations based on school procedures.
• Refers students for disciplinary action for inappropriate behaviors to administration.
• Inspects playground for hazardous equipment or materials and ensures safe entry and exit.
• Is the first and last person on the playground to ensure student safety.

Non-Essential Functions

• Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Positive interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to deescalate potential volatile situations.
• Can remain calm during emergencies.

Required Education and Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• No prior experience is required.

Assigned Decision Making

• Determines if students should be reported to teachers or administrators for inappropriate behaviors.
• Makes decisions to move students to safety in case of emergency situations.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stands, walks, reaches with hands and arms, stoops, kneels, and crouches.
• Occasionally climbs or balances.
• Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
