Plating Operator (2nd Shift)

About the Role

Selected Plating Operator candidates will apply Post Chromate (chemical conversion coatings) to steel alloy production parts and perform various support functions for the Plating department. Candidates should be fully familiar with racking techniques, manual and tank chromate treatment applications, and pre-cleaning operations such as solvent cleaning and vapor degreasing. Operators will maintain terminal equipment, including repair and replacement of racking components, and must be self-disciplined, self-motivated, and detail-oriented. Flexibility, adaptability, and strong communication skills are essential in this fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

• Work safely under functional safety guidelines, including PPE and equipment interaction.
• Adhere to quality processes, including in-process inspection to ensure compliance with quality specifications.
• Correctly access and interpret documentation (e.g., C-Specs).
• Lift up to 45 lbs repetitively.
• Work overtime as needed.
• Perform intermediate racking and loading of product (Basic Plating).
• Make intermediate chemical additions (e.g., Acids, Cyanides).
• Perform in-process inspection (e.g., X-ray Unit).
• Meet area/product-specific production standards.
• Complete process and operation documentation (e.g., traceability).
• Work in a team environment, following instructions and assisting others as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

• Ability to read and write English.
• Ability to perform basic shop math, including fractions and decimals.
• Ability to use basic hand tools (e.g., wrenches).
• Familiarity with plating times and process charting (Digital).
• Ability to use basic inspection tools such as micrometers.
• Ability to navigate intranet to locate process documents (basic computer skills).
• Ability to read and interpret work instructions, basic prints, and dimensions.

Qualifications

Typically requires 2-3 years of experience. A GED or High School diploma is preferred but not required.
