Responsibilities

  • Ensures that appropriate safety procedures are followed.
  • Operates, performs regular preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, tests, and makes rounds taking regular readings as required to maximize asset value.
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks and records preventive maintenance activities.
  • Affords assistance in training and development of other employees in performing preventive maintenance and routine equipment service activities.
  • Practices situational leadership, safety, and environmental stewardship.
  • Affords assistance with equipment or system problem identification and recommends solutions.
  • Affords assistance in developing/modifying operating procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation.
  • Affords assistance in requisitioning parts and supplies.
  • Participates in other duties as required.

Skills/Competencies

  • Performs job duties safely and adheres to all safety, environmental, and NERC compliance requirements.
  • Maintains qualifications as an Emergency Response Team Member and completes all required Safety Annual Requalification Training.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete job assignments in a setting that requires teamwork, as well as independent decision making (independently perform Watch Station Rounds).
  • Solid communication skills, both verbal and written (clear communications using a walkie-talkie).
  • Ability to understand and utilize technical procedures and to apply critical thinking to solve technical problems.
  • Ability to think clearly and perform duties during emergency or high-stress situations.
  • Completes Plant Operator Qualifications Training Program.
  • Has aptitude in math, mechanical/electrical ability, and production control.
  • Ability to work rotating 12 hour shifts and overtime with minimum supervision.

Education & Experience Required

  • Minimum of vocational training/mechanical experience.
  • Preferred (5) years’ experience in a power plant, Hands-on experience with all aspects of power plant operations and maintenance including mechanical maintenance, instrument and electrical systems, and a working knowledge of power cycles is a plus.
  • High School graduate/Vocational training and/or some experience in industrial Operations, Mechanical, or Electrical, including pumps, valves, motors, machinery mechanics and electrical and control theory.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Mobility to work in an environment that requires the ability and willingness to walk, climb, and lift, and work outside in severe weather conditions.
  • Frequent overtime and/or weekends on short notice.
  • This position requires working a rotating shift schedule, which routinely involves weekend and overnight duty.
  • Individuals will respond to emergency situations as a member of the emergency response team.
  • Physical & Mental Demands: The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Physical Demands: At the Power Plant facility and in/outdoor environment, must be able to work in adverse conditions that may include, but not be limited to the following: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to climb stairs, ladders, and work on elevated platforms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 45 pounds overhead and 50 pounds from the floor to 36 inches. Must be willing to travel to other facilities if needed.
  • Mental Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills, read, and interpret data, information, and documents; analyze and solve complex problems, observe, and interpret situations, use math and mathematical reasoning; deal with changing, intensive deadlines, and interact with internal and external clients. Must be able to concentrate while under time constraints.
  • Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and hot, cold, wet or humid conditions. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock and vibration. Exposure to hazards associated with power and hand tools, dust, fumes, high pressure steam, high temperatures and confined spaces; and may be regularly subject to external environmental conditions such as cold, heat dust, snow or noise and fumes from equipment or chemicals.
