Plant Technician I&E

About the role

Ironwood Generating Station is a 720MW (net), 2x1 Siemens 501G Combined Cycle facility in Lebanon County, PA. The Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager.

Responsibilities

• Ensure work is completed in a safe, environmentally compliant manner and in a safe, timely manner to minimize downtime and maximize availability
• Stay abreast of all tools, technology in the marketplace and maintain personal qualifications to the highest standards
• Install, troubleshoot, repair and perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment, instrumentation and analytical equipment, following electrical code, manuals, procedures, schematic diagrams, blueprints and other specifications
• Inspect instrumentation periodically and perform calibrations to ensure accuracy
• Locate defective components using test equipment such as pressure gauges, manometers, potentiometers, signal generators, pulse counters, oscilloscopes, HART communicators, ammeters, voltmeters etc
• Install power supply and signal wiring/cables, cable tray and conduit for newly installed machines, electrical equipment, instrumentation, distributive control systems, signal interface cabinets and telephone systems
• Install, troubleshoot and maintain DCS and PLC logic systems. Develop and modify PLC code utilizing PC based configuration software
• Analyze plant operations through the DCS system and, under direction, make configuration and program changes to modify operations and interface new plant equipment
• Performs routine generator electrical system test and inspections to the extent qualified and or performs QA/QC on an outside contractor work activities
• Keeps shift supervisor fully informed of unusual conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations
• Uses facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to maintain and repair facility equipment and ensure equipment is operated within operating range
• Fully supports the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System by displaying a proficiency in using the system and dedication to the facility maintenance philosophy. Performs CMMS data entry and work order close-out in a thorough and timely fashion
• Opens and closes circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation
• Performs capital project and/or major program responsibilities as assigned by plant management and Coordinates IC&E work with contractors
• Maintains the cleanliness of all areas of the plant
• Updates drawings and prints as required
• Promote a safe, productive team environment
• Supports Maintenance Manager in planning and scheduling duties, especially as related to outages

Requirements

• Possess excellent diagnostic and repair skills for addressing complex problems in electrical generation and distribution systems
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills required
• Must have strong computer skills to interact with the computerized maintenance management system and other MS Office programs
• Knowledgeable in mechanical relay and ladder logic, and programming of simple ladder logic programs
• Strong skills in troubleshooting and correcting DCS to I/O to field device issues
• Identify, interpret and effectively use drawings and documentation related to electrical and process controls including Electrical One-line diagrams, Elementary diagrams, wiring schematics, control schematics, P&ID’s, Cause & Effect diagrams, Instrument Loop diagrams, Interconnect diagrams, etc.
• Strong skills in troubleshooting 120 volt AC controls, 480 V, 2400 V, 13.8KV switchgear; Working knowledge of inspection, maintenance and troubleshooting of distribution and power transformers
• Experience with CEMS and DAHS systems operation and maintenance/trouble shooting
• Experience with NEC, NFPA 70E, NERC, 40CFR Part 60 and Part 75 environmental regulations
• May be required to operate a fork-lift and similar plant equipment
• Reads understands and complies with all regulatory and facility safety procedures
• Experience Minimum of 3 years working experience in the process instrumentation and electrical trades, preferably in power plant environments
• Must have experience working with and troubleshooting different types of automatic valves and actuators
• Must have experience working with distributed control systems including strong trouble shooting skills and abilities - Siemens T3000 a plus
• Must be familiar with NETA, NFPA, ASTM, IEEE, standards as they pertain to prudent utility practice and NFPA Arc Flash for high voltage equipment
• Documented completion of a formal training program in the field of Process Instrumentation, Controls and Electronics, e.g. trade school, company sponsored training, 2-year technical training program, etc., or 3+ years of equivalent experiencing in the IC&E field
• Must successfully pass the EEI (Edison Electric Institute) Combo POSS B/MASS exam

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to work and perform duties in all types of weather conditions
• Must be able to work overtime when requested to support business needs
• Must be able to safely lift a minimum of 70 pounds
• Must be able to safely operate various types of mobile equipment including, but not limited to, fork lift and man lift
• Must be able to safely climb fixed and portable ladders of various sizes
• Must be able to work in confined spaces and at elevated heights

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required
