About the role
The Plant Support Engineer will lead and/or support the activities of the electrical plant support engineering team. The scope covers operations and maintenance support in addition to aiding the design team for all electrical aspects of the Thermomechanical Treatment Facilities (TTF) process at 35+ facilities globally. This includes high, medium, and low voltage electrical systems such as switchgears, relay protection, transformers, motor control centers, and more.
Responsibilities
- Electrical Design Assist design engineering team to review/approve electrical system design documents including: one line/three line diagrams, DC control schematics, wiring diagrams, arc flash, short circuit & voltage drop calculations, coordination studies using SKM (a plus)
- Supports development of scope of work for electrical AE firms on projects supporting emergent needs and coordinates with suppliers and contractors as applicable
- Commissioning/Startup Provides on-site consulting/overview of equipment installation and preparation for service Supports field activities on construction projects and provides guidance on electrical design/installation issues
- Troubleshooting/Problem Solving Provides direct electrical troubleshooting support, or in some cases leverages outside engineering firms to support plant operations. Analyzes electrical failure root causes and develops cost-effective technical solutions using SEL Synchro wave Event Analyzer, GE EnerVista and similar tools
- Continuous Improvement Works with corporate and plant engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to drive continuous improvement and productivity goals
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
- Minimum 4+ years engineering experience in electrical power distribution
- Experience PE License is preferred, EIT required
- Experience with high, medium & low voltage distribution systems and electrical power generation, preferably in large utility power plant/s or large industrial facilities
- Proficiency in understanding one line/three line diagrams, DC control schematics, wiring diagrams, GA drawings related to interconnections, substations, power plants and electrical aspects of process plants including but not limited to motors, MCCs, PDCs and other electrical equipment
- Experience with microprocessor, solid state and electro-mechanical protective relaying schemes (medium voltage) including coordination and development of relay settings or troubleshooting of relay related trips
- SEL relays experience is highly preferred
- Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data to identify trends is required
- Effective written and oral communication skills; ability to analyze data, write technical reports, develop work packages (incl. engineering drawings), and handle multiple assignments
- Ability to effectively communicate complex information, while considering audience understanding and level
- Ability to work on multiple facility emergent support concurrently
- Experience in using SEL Synchro wave Event Analyzer, and GE EnerVista and similar tools
- Experience using SKM tool for coordination study purposes
