About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Assistant to support our opticians in delivering high-quality eye care services. You will be responsible for assisting with patient pre-screening, frame selection, and eyewear adjustments, while ensuring a welcoming and professional environment for all patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with frame selection and fitting, providing style and lens recommendations based on prescription and lifestyle needs.
  • Perform preliminary eye function tests, including auto-refraction, tonometry, and visual field screening.
  • Educate patients on proper contact lens insertion, removal, and care routines.
  • Maintain and calibrate optical equipment, ensuring all tools are sanitized and in proper working order.
  • Manage inventory of contact lenses, frames, and lenses, placing orders as needed to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Process insurance claims and verify patient coverage details accurately.
  • Schedule patient appointments and manage patient flow to minimize wait times and optimize clinic efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in opticianry or related field preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Optician (ABO) or Certified Paraoptometric (CPO) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in an optical or healthcare setting, preferably as an optician assistant or ophthalmic technician.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to providing exceptional patient service.
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Skills

  • Excellent patient communication and education abilities.
  • Knowledge of optical terminology, lens materials, and frame adjustments.
  • Strong organizational and inventory management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with optometrists, opticians, and administrative staff.
  • Basic troubleshooting of optical equipment.

Pay

  • Hourly rate: $18.00 – $24.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

  • Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with rotating Saturday mornings (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM) as needed.
