About the role
The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is seeking a Plant Operator to manage wastewater treatment processes.
Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and EPA regulations.
- Monitor and optimize wastewater plant process controls.
- Sample, collect, and analyze wastewater, sludge, and biosolids samples.
- Operate and adjust wastewater treatment processes.
- Complete visual inspections and record operational data.
- Perform preventative maintenance on plant equipment.
- Participate in stormwater pollution prevention program.
- Perform general housekeeping and cleaning duties.
- Use and navigate various applications and programs.
- Perform complex mathematical calculations.
- Participate in safety and training programs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Zone I requires a year of maintenance experience, Zone II-IV require additional experience and certifications.
- Must obtain a Virginia Wastewater Works Operator License within 18 months of hire.
- Must have a valid Virginia driver's license.
- Experience with utility plant maintenance is preferred.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, safety principles, and laboratory equipment.
Qualifications
- Strong mathematical background in Algebra and Geometry.
- Ability to safely use hand tools.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment techniques.
Skills
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Wastewater treatment training courses.
- Ability to use personal protective equipment.
