About the role
The selected candidate will be responsible for the daily routine maintenance of the Water/Wastewater Plant on the resort's property.
Responsibilities
- Controls all valves for the proper flow of water into and through the treatment process.
- Makes sure the correct chemicals are applied to the water during the treatment process.
- Performs chemical and laboratory tests of water at set times to check chlorine residual, turbidity, alkalinity, and temperature levels.
- Monitors and interprets chemical test data, plant machinery, and water in process to keep track of plant operations and make necessary adjustments.
- Operates filter units and backwashes them at regular intervals or when needed; super-chlorinates filters when they start working again and keeps records of filter maintenance and issues.
- Does minor maintenance and emergency repairs to water treatment machinery.
- Maintains records of treatment operations.
- Starts pumps or machines that stop working; assists with minor or routine machine maintenance and makes necessary emergency repairs; performs a regular schedule of preventive maintenance; keeps buildings and other work sites clean.
- Collects and prepares periodic samples for laboratory; records data on forms and enters into computer system.
- Assists in the maintenance and repair of buildings, mechanical equipment, and other related to water treatment and water pumping.
- Unloads and handles chemicals, supplies from vehicles to storage, and chemical feed machines.
- Operates and controls flow control valves, pump stations, wells, water treatment equipment, and water quality analyzers to maintain optimal water system conditions.
- Adjusts dosage of treatment chemicals used for disinfection and corrosion control, including working with hazardous chemicals like chlorine and sodium hydroxide.
- May be required to respond to 24-hour emergency calls for assigned work area to perform emergency building or equipment repairs during off-duty hours using a vehicle, telephone, hand, power and specialty tools and necessary materials.
- Receives and reviews work orders/requests to determine estimated cost and man-hour requirements. Requisitions and/or purchases supplies and materials.
- Performs prescribed maintenance checks as scheduled.
Requirements
- Must have a Class C or higher Water/Wastewater Licenses with appropriate sub classes.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty staff, students, and coworkers.
- Able to work a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend duty.
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Must be able to speak English.
Qualifications
- Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Recreational experience.
Skills
- Knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes.
- Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, and charts.
- Basic understanding of chemical applications and laboratory testing.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Physical stamina to lift and maneuver hoses and handle pressure.
