Plant Operator I - Water/Wastewater

About the role

The Plant Operator I - Water/Wastewater position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a water or wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift. This role involves inspecting plant equipment, taking samples, adjusting treatment plant equipment, and performing preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Inspects plant equipment and machinery to ensure proper operation; takes samples and performs laboratory analyses to monitor treatment processes.
• Adjusts treatment plant equipment such as chlorinators, lime shakers, flocculators, and other machinery based on sample results.
• Maintains supplies of chemicals and assists in instructing new employees.
• Performs physical and chemical tests, checks for leaks, and performs minor calibrations.
• Answers public calls for emergency repair work or service reconnections; dispatches personnel and performs tests.
• Monitors plant records and prepares daily reports.
• Reports any serious plant issues to supervisors immediately.

Requirements

• High School or Vocational School diploma.
• One or more years of experience in the operation of electrical and mechanical machinery similar to that in a water and wastewater treatment plant.
• A Class "C" water or wastewater plant operators license from the Florida Department of Professional Regulation.
• Valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement.
• Valid Class "E" Florida Driver's License.

Qualifications

• Current Incentives/Benefits: $100/pay period and $1000 paid out in June 2026 (prorated).
• Health Insurance: 100% paid by the Town for single coverage, 50% paid by the Town for dependents.
• Leave: 13 holidays per year, 3.69 hours of sick leave per pay period, 2 weeks of vacation leave per year, 1 day of quality service leave after probation, and 2 wellness days per year.
• Pension/Retirement: Mandatory 3% contributions per pay period to the Town-sponsored pension plan.
• Uniforms: Provided by the Department.
