Plant Operator -Cylinder Filler
Location: Chicago, IL (ASG) - Industrial specialty gas
About the role
As a Plant Operator-Cylinder Filler, you will manage equipment for the handling and production of packaged gas cylinders, including both high-pressure and liquefied gases. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and quality procedures.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload gas cylinders from pallets, using proper cylinder movement techniques.
- Conduct pre-fill inspections of cylinders and valves to ensure safe filling, following Airgas standard operating procedures.
- Fill cylinders by temperature/pressure or weight, adhering to company procedures.
- Perform pre, during, and post-fill inspections to confirm cylinders are filled correctly and not leaking.
- Analyze contaminants in pure gas cylinders using various analytical equipment.
- Understand gas hazards using material safety data sheets, cylinder labels, and pure gas color coding.
- Perform cylinder maintenance, including painting, valve changes, and pressure relief device replacements.
- Assist with inventory and general housekeeping.
- Collaborate on identifying solutions for nonconforming products.
- Operate and perform basic maintenance on compressors and cryogenic liquid pumps.
- Troubleshoot and perform basic equipment maintenance.
- Support the training and development of new gas fillers.
- Contribute to team success through additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of one year of prior experience in a manufacturing operation; filling or loading experience preferred.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Strong background in gas, welding, safety supply, or chemical industry preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend material safety data sheets.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with diverse personalities and backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and computation of rates, ratios, and percentages.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand for extended periods throughout the work shift.
- Must be able to lift 70 pounds without assistance.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.

Pay
$25–$28 per hour
