Plant Operations and Admin Lead
Plains Pozzolanic, an affiliated NEBCO Company, provides coal combustion product marketing, storage, and disposal services. Fly ash is supplied for use in concrete and as a soil stabilization material. NEBCO is a fourth-generation, family-owned business with over 1,100 employees across 50 locations in Nebraska, operating since 1908.
About the Role
The Plant Operations and Admin Lead oversees safe and efficient operations for loading, shipping, ticketing, and disposal of ash products at the power plant. This role involves daily communication with NPPD plant personnel, NEBCO office staff, and supervisors to ensure tasks are completed. The position requires flexibility to fill in where needed and adherence to company safety policies. Hours average 40 to 50 per week, generally between 6 AM and 6 PM, with occasional weekend work based on operational needs. The role is located at a power plant and requires passing a background check, pre-employment physical, drug testing, and back screening.
Responsibilities
- Supervises plant personnel, providing guidance and training, including responsibilities of the Plant Operations Maintenance Lead as needed.
- Communicates potential problems, project status, and timelines to ensure work is completed safely and on time; supports other departments as directed.
- Informs the General Manager promptly of safety, ash supply, or NPPD-related issues.
- Plans daily operations, delegates tasks, and performs duties alongside Operations and Maintenance personnel.
- Operates front-end loaders, motor graders, semi-trucks, and car movers safely within the NPPD plant area.
- Loads fly ash and bottom ash into market trucks and/or rail cars.
- Ensures proper ticketing for orders according to requirements.
- Maintains shop and equipment to safety standards and ensures cleanliness of the shop, office, restrooms, scale rooms, and equipment.
- Provides safety training and documentation for plant operations as needed.
- Communicates with NEBCO staff and customers regarding invoicing, bill of ladings for trucking and rail (e.g., BNSF).
- Collaborates with NEBCO corporate teams for personnel orientation, onboarding, and training.
- Assists payroll and accounting by completing weekly employee timecards and organizing invoices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1 year of experience in a leadership role involving operation of construction machinery (e.g., front-end loader, motor grader, semi-tractor) in a construction or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license and insurability under the company insurance program.
Qualifications
- Basic equipment maintenance and repair experience.
- Ability to oversee and train personnel.
- Proficiency in reading and comprehending job-related documents (e.g., scale tickets, SDS sheets, equipment manuals, safety manuals).
- Basic math skills for inventory counting and order completion.
- Ability to follow simple one- or two-step instructions.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work independently with attention to detail to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Strong ability to distinguish safe from unsafe conditions.
- Team-oriented with the ability to delegate tasks and follow work direction.
