About the Role
This position provides key administrative support to the plant manager and performs a variety of office duties relating to the efficient operation of a Vulcan Materials production facility. Responsible for processing all daily and monthly accounting-related information accurately and timely. Assists the location manager with analyses of monthly financial statements and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily plant administrative duties including purchase orders, payables, time cards, fuel usage and receipts, bank deposits, tracking costs, and running local reports for the plant manager.
- Prepare month, quarter, and year-end closing information such as fuel inventories, fixed asset changes, equipment rentals, month-end accounts payable accruals, and location production reports.
- Prepare detailed analyses of monthly margin and cost statements, researching and identifying variances as requested by location management.
- Ensure timecards are accurately completed, coded, and approved timely to meet payroll closing schedules; track attendance trends and report concerns to plant management.
- Update plant systems (EMS, Plant Management, VPC Calculator, VCommerce, Gensuite, KPI, Lab Check, etc.) accurately and timely.
- Review, print, and distribute preventative maintenance items; create work orders and address service inquiries.
- Track p-card expenses, reclassify as needed, and ensure proper close-out at month-end; support others in completing month-end close of their p-cards.
- Develop mid and end-of-month cost projects, including variance explanations; research, document, and resolve location business-related problems.
- Act as a liaison with HR, Plant Accounting, Safety, Health and Environment, Payroll, Benefits, and other departments.
- Support the development of the site’s annual operating and capital budgets, as well as the monthly production planner.
- Serve as a contact for the plant: receive guests, answer phones, and direct questions to the appropriate individual.
- Serve as backup for scale clerk duties when necessary.
Requirements
- High school diploma is required; 2 years of college is preferred.
- Minimum of one year in bookkeeping, accounting, or related experience.
- Experience in an administrative or clerical role.
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and G-Suite (Docs, Sheets).
- Knowledge of common office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Fundamental understanding of accounting principles and basic math skills with a focus on accuracy.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to legally and safely operate a motor vehicle.

Pay
The base salary range for this role is $60,000 - $70,000 annually. This range does not include discretionary bonuses or equity packages. Compensation is determined based on skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
