About the role

The Plant Manager at Spartech LLC, Cape Girardeau, MO, plays a crucial role in overseeing the operations of the facility. This position involves providing direction, ensuring safety and environmental performance, developing and implementing operational plans, securing necessary resources, and managing employee development.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and coordinates all activities including safety, environmental performance, production, and cost management.
  • Develops and implements plans to reduce waste, meet regulatory standards, and handle emergencies.
  • Determines resource requirements and secures them to support the plant's operating plan.
  • Maintains quality standards, utilizes cost-effective technology, and maximizes production efficiency.
  • Develops and executes a capital plan to enhance plant operations and ensure adherence to annual budgeted costs.
  • Trains and develops employees to foster a strong team environment and assist in career development.
  • Represents the company externally in a professional manner.
  • Manages production line responsibilities through supervision of production managers, supervisors, lead persons, and other production staff.
  • Communicates and documents production policies and procedures effectively.
  • Resolves problems with good judgment and creativity, prioritizing tasks and executing project plans.
  • Builds and maintains a strong team environment and interfaces with all levels and types of internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least ten years of experience in manufacturing, with at least four years in plant management, preferably in a production environment similar to Spartech's.
  • Minimum one year of process engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and ISO standards.
  • Experience with labor relations, preferably in a union environment.
  • Experience with budgeting, financial tracking, and production operation.
  • Experience with ERP or similar manufacturing system software.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 9001 and 14001 standards and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Education & Experience

BS/BA in Engineering or related technical discipline, manufacturing or related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lean Manufacturing and ISO standards training.
  • Experience with financial standards, budgets, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
