The Role
The Plant Manager II-Winston Salem, NC is responsible for meeting all operational and financial goals in accordance with the company’s overall goals and strategies for the Winston Salem Tekni-Plex location. This role reports to the Director of Operations and is a member of the company's leadership team.
Responsibilities
- Effectively lead and direct the manufacturing operations to maximize the financial benefit to Tekni-Plex.
- Lead initiatives that result in maximizing machine utilization and output at minimum cost, producing a quality product, directing training, reducing scrap, and ensuring a safe work environment where all employees are valued, respected, and accountable.
- Ensure manufacturing goals are met to improve performance in the areas of production output, machine utilization, and cost control.
- Maintain monitoring of production outputs, machine utilization, downtime issues, and quality service levels.
- Evaluate scrap levels and implement strategies to reduce scrap, including working with suppliers to reduce their variability and to reimburse when they provide defective product.
- Evaluate manning requirements and implement plans to ensure personnel are adequately trained and machine results are visible in production areas.
- Support and lead efforts & activities to improve safety and housekeeping.
- Strengthen Mfg. floor leadership through the development of Prod. Mgrs. and Supervisors.
- Communicate regularly with OA's to develop and maintain effective employee relations.
- Recommend, justify, and assist in implementing Capital Requests to support strategic plans.
- Maintain oversight of make-ready and reduce scrap.
- Monitor Departmental Spending and recommend ways to control and reduce spending.
- Monitor employee performance including action plans for non-performers and rewards for those with superior performance.
- Strengthen company team performance with participation on teams and assure that all direct reports participate on teams.
- Oversee management operating systems and implementation by reports.
- Adhere to all Company Safety rules and regulations.
- Adhere to Tekni-Plex safety and environmental compliance programs.
Leadership & Operational Capabilities
- Ability to direct the activities of Production Managers and Supervisors to provide leadership throughout the organization, evaluate production performance, and develop operational strategic plans.
- Superior communication skills across levels and functions throughout the company to include the ability to make presentations to levels from company executives, customers, to operating associates.
- Ability to evaluate production constraints, develop action plans, and direct implementation of projects.
- Able to handle multiple tasks and functions simultaneously and ability to act calmly and quickly in crisis situations.
- Ability to develop position descriptions, evaluate performance, evaluate potential candidates, evaluate performance, hire personnel, and recommend an organizational structure to provide the talent necessary to continually improve company performance.
Skills
- Some overnight travel by various modes of transportation including airline, train, and automobile as deemed appropriate.
- Able to work extended hours as required.
- Continuous contact with other people requiring communications via face-to-face, orally by telephone, and various written methodologies.
- BS Degree in a business or technical field with 10+ years supervisory/management experience.
- Thorough knowledge of production processes within manufacturing.
- Sound working knowledge of customer relationships including volume, process, and quality requirements.
- Knowledge of planning and scheduling functions.
- Knowledge of financial reporting.
- Knowledge of industry and converting equipment (desirable).
- Ability to handle a multiple tasks with varying deadlines.
- Ability to work with extremely confidential information/situations and maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills through all levels of management.
- Have talking knowledge of all Packaging functions and their purpose.
Pay
The compensation range for this position is $180,000 - $193,000 plus a target bonus incentive.
