Responsibilities
- Manages resources of plant and equipment toward the most efficient production of baked goods from raw materials to finished goods.
- Manages and oversees the Production Planner in planning and scheduling of production work in order to meet customer orders and customer pull for shipping.
- Directs the flow of information from customer orders to shop floor production and packaging work orders.
- Oversees and assesses staffing levels of all plant employees at a 3-shift operation to optimize overall manufacturing performance within budgetary constraints.
- Manages and oversees the Quality Assurance Manager, Sanitation and the QA department to ensure that the company complies with all food safety standards for GMPs, HACCP, HARPC, Food Defense, BRC and FSMA on a continual basis via inspection, reporting and re-inspection.
- Promotes a culture of the highest food safety standards by coaching, counseling and training plant management and supervision regarding the importance of compliance with all of the above mentioned standards and how to meet those standards on a daily basis.
- Manages and oversees the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance department to ensure that the plant equipment is maintained in an efficient and cost effective manner in order to reduce downtime and increase uptime.
- Manages and oversees the Continuous Improvement and Process Manager to ensure that standardized work methods and QCP’s are being followed to improve quality while reducing costs and waste.
- Create and manage Plant KPI’s, OEE measurements and waste reduction plans so that all plant employees are engaged in producing quality product in the most efficient manner.
Requirements
- Education Requirements: Must have a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, business administration or similar.
- Process Industry Requirements: Thorough understanding of commercial high speed manufacturing equipment and processes. Extensive knowledge in food safety with experience in SQF, BRC or other GFSI certification audits and codes. Extensive knowledge and experience in either Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing.
- General Requirements: Operational Efficiency - Plans and coordinates use of manpower, ingredients and equipment to ensure efficient production of consistent quality products. Engineering - Understands the equipment in a process manufacturing plant and the interaction of the process and equipment. Accounting Policy and Key Accounting Practices - Understands production accounting along with budgets and profit and loss responsibility. Team Dynamics – Empowerment, Collaboration, Motivation, and Enthusiasm - effectively leads, coaches, trains, and motivates people to follow established standards. Performance Management – effectively monitor performance of direct reports and provide feedback to improve performance. Must have effective Oral and Written Communication skills. Must be able to successfully coach, train and follow up with people to ensure production goals are met. Must be flexible in approach to supporting the needs of Sales and Marketing. Must be skilled at building partnerships within the organization and coordinating with support departments. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Bend to grasp objects and ability to climb ladders. Bend and lift loads not to exceed 50 pounds unassisted or 100 pounds with assistance. Work in very hot temperatures (>90 degrees F) seasonally. Must be able to work a variety of shifts including weekends, evenings and holidays. Ability to work in a noisy environment while being exposed to wheat flour and gluten.
